Unless the Lord Builds the House…

Hey! Just got back from a conference in Antigua & Barbuda. Wonderful time with the brothers and sisters in the Caribbean. I will have more to say about that later. Right now I am gearing up for Sunday and I am excited about what God will do to EPC through his word this weekend. This coming Sunday we have the honor of hearing from God’s word as it comes to us in Psalm 127. It is a familiar Psalm that speaks of God’s gracious power to bless his people when they adhere to his wisdom. We will see in God’s wisdom there is a godly construction, a godly contentment, and a godly inheritance. All of this if based in the wisdom of God. which the Bible tells us is found only in Christ (1Cor. 1:24). This is a particularly timely message as the debate for marriage and the home is raging once again. In fact, a recent article headlined Time magazine entitled: “Unfaithfully Yours: Why Marriage Matters.” In the article the author has some rather interesting and biblically obvious observations concerning this divinely ordained institution. In looking at the recent high profile infidelities (Sanford and Edwards), the author states:
“And so two more American families discover a truth as old as marriage: a lasting covenant between a man and a woman can be a vehicle for the nurture and protection of each other, the one reliable shelter in an uncaring world – or it can be a matchless tool for the infliction of suffering on the people you supposedly love above all others, most of all on your children.”
She goes on to say, “There is no other single force for causing as much measurable hardship and human misery in this country as the collapse of marriage.”
It would appear that God’s standard and wisdom concerning marriage and the home is just as relevant today as it has ever been. The years of societies so called maturing and advancement in relationships has not left us better, but worse and even on the verge of collapse as the homosexual lobby would do away with traditional marriage all together. Beware, President Obama. Don’t be the President under whose watch marriage collapsed and so did society as we know it. More than ever, this nation needs to hear, even the church needs to reaffirm that “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127).
